*Flower in the City* is a poetic juxtaposition of nature and urban life—a portrait of quiet resilience amidst the chaos. Painted on a 60 cm × 30 cm canvas, this vertical composition captures a woman in profile, her face serene and contemplative as she gazes beyond the viewer into a world of blue-hued cityscapes and fleeting light.
Her dark hair flows like a river, adorned with vibrant red flowers—bold, alive, and defiantly natural—symbolizing beauty, vitality, and the enduring presence of life in even the most concrete surroundings. The large bloom at her temple feels almost sacred, a crown of wildness against the cool, abstract backdrop of skyscrapers and water reflections. Her lips are painted a soft coral-red, her skin cool-toned, blending seamlessly into the atmospheric blues and greens that dominate the background.
I created this piece to explore the tension between the organic and the man-made—the way nature persists, quietly blooming in cracks, on rooftops, in forgotten corners. The brushwork is expressive and fluid, with layers of colour suggesting rain, motion, and memory. The city is not sharp or aggressive; it’s dreamlike, blurred, as if seen through mist or longing.
